In order to facilitate the expansion of natural gas all over Bangladesh, Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) intended to develop the energy sector with various upstream and downstream investments. Compressor Station Project was one such investment where Asian Development Bank (ADB) had extended loan assistance under the Gas Transmission and Development Project.
Introduction of pipeline compressor technology for capacity utilization of national gas grid became essential in Bangladesh in view of its high population density that limits land availability for pipeline ROW. It was identified that the most cost effective facility option for augmentation of the national gas grid was installation of compressor stations at Ashuganj, Muchai and Elenga.
